Rudyard Kipling Beautiful girl, in front of the mirror, looking at the prettiest face I can only dream would be staring back at me. Well I see a boy, and all that he wants to do in life is play with toys, And guns made out of sticks. And roll in the leaves, and get grass stains in the knees of his brand new blue jeans, and just enjoy everything. Smart little girl, just watch the world pass by your life, like a plane, your either on it or your not, and it won't stop, until it lands or til it crashes to the ground. So play it safe and don't get hurt, cuz when your old you'll have more scars than you deserve, and you might regret the life that you lost.... but you'll be safe. Take to heart this page I hold, torn from a book that's never read. Its song is sewn on the back of your heart, the adventure makes the man, the adventure makes the man. So find your path and let it lead, through thick and thin, health and disease, and let your heart overcome the lies your mind holds. So roll in the leaves, and get grass stains in the knees of your brand new blue jeans, and just enjoy everything, cuz when your old and scarred, you'll have what you deserve. A story and a life earned. But you can only tell a story so many times, so make sure you have a lot more than one. So take to heart this page I hold, torn from a book that's never read, its song is sewn on the back of your heart. The adventure makes the man, the adventure makes the man. And you can only tell a story so many times, so make sure you have a lot more than one. The adventure makes the man, the adventure makes the man. So live life.

Buck 04:51
Buck We’re fearless fakes, yet we call each other brother, We can’t relate, let alone love one another. We’ve such a mess, that we can cover well. And we’ll point you out, and reserve our place in hell. You’ll sink or swim, when your thrown over board, A life changing mistake or is there some reward. I look to see, but nothing’s as it seems, How can this be, in a world that’s lacking dreams. Stealing stars, the sun will rise And I’ll trade my eyes for dimes, My heart’s a fruit for flies My soul an open safe of lies. The Devil’s skin in paper thin, Green and black ink flows within. “In God we Trust” is a stable line that sends cold shivers down my spine. Your banks and trusts will haunt you like a breeze When you don’t have a coat and your about to freeze, Break free your chains, and strike a match If it’s your pain, don’t let it hold you back. And we don’t know how, to show our love when all our money’s gone. But I will show mine, when all I have is a penny and a song. And anything you want to give, ill gladly give it back. Those who are lacking, will be relaxing and all that they don’t have.

The End of the World Floating Stones, and broken bones. Misread threats that are left alone. Today is the day I’m coming home, and I’m as nervous as the Devil in a thunderstorm. It’s running through mind “I’m gonna be ok,” Sprinting through my head that, “tomorrow is another day,” and I could wait for another day, to go home. Cuz tomorrow isn’t promised, and I’ve got nothing to lose, Cuz when I come running, I come running to you. Sinking steps in a quicksand yard, As I look to find my path, it don’t end very far ahead, and as I turn around my steps are sinking in. Well I’m like a man on the street with no hands signing songs to a world with no eyes, I need to find a true trade in this world of lies. and tomorrow isn’t promised, and I’ve got nothing to lose, and when I come running, I come running to you. yeah tomorrow isn’t promised, and I’ve got nothing to lose, and when I come running, I come running to you. Well it’s like a clock ticking back in a time machine, Set to return to 1917 To stop this world from growing any older, And I was a thought, even then, in the head of a God that I can’t comprehend. And I can’t go home until his will is done in my life and in him, I’m made strong. Cuz tomorrow isn’t promised and I got nothing to lose, cuz when I come running I come running to you. To you.

Sweet Sixteen The homeless on the street, they sing a song. I hear and I sing along. But I sing out of key. We only see what we want to see. And we’re blind to their need. Lonely girls only get the guys who want the most, But they just want more attention. And these guys, they don’t know how, To say no. Cuz they have awful intentions. What’s one more drink, I’ve already thrown my life away. My wife and kids won’t even stay. My only hope is that this drink will be my last. And I’ll find what home is left. The whole world screams, “Where can we find hope?” they’re on their knees, overflowing with disease. They’re reaching out as we’re drawing back, “don’t expose me to that.” Your dad got mad, and then he scarred your face. You’ve never once felt safe. And no one came, No one ever broke down your door. And you and your brothers got more. Her sweet sixteen, and she’s got one on the way. That’s the world we live in today. With one quick fix, no one will ever know at all. But she will always miss the lost. The whole world screams, “Where can we find hope?” they’re on their knees, overflowing with disease. They’re reaching out as we’re drawing back, “don’t expose me to that.”

Big Fat Cataract With failed faith, a blind man thought his eyes were only closed. In his mind he truly thought that he could see. And his wife's mute mouth made for hands so strong and loud, and she could play a pretty tune that he would sing. Her eyes were his, so perfectly teal, and his lips were hers, although quietly still. Pharoah, your hard heart lost your life, and in the name of God, the sea rained down upon your eyes. Your dark life has clouded up your mind, and it makes you miss the sight provided by your wife's beautiful eyes. Sing for me. Let him love the giver not the gift. Break his heart that his sight may drift. Sing me a song with that voice you have, let it be from the heart. Jonah's shade is gone, and on his face he wears the bitter rage from misunderstanding God's glorious grace. Hard heart, stone heart, blind man open up your eyes. Sing for me. Let him love the giver not the gift. Break his heart that his sight may drift. Sing me a song with that voice you have, let it be from the heart. You've seen so many things, but paid them no attention. Your ears are open but they hear nothing. Sing for me. Hard heart, stone heart, blind man open up your eyes. Hard heart, stone heart, LOOK! YOU BLIND! AND SEE! Open up your eyes. I can see through your disguise. Behold the glory that's before me. Open up your eyes. I can see through you disguise, behold the glory that's before me, and made for me, to pour out on your life.

I Am Nothing 05:11
Nothing, I Am Humble spirit come, Tear down what I’ve done. I am nothing You created all I see, And still you created me. I am nothing And apart from you, I am nothing. Lord, empty me. Slay my selfish thoughts, You were on your knees Before you died you washed their feet King without a crown God who walked the earth Serving those who cursed your name You gave it all, to take the blame.

about

the lilies & sparrows Greer, South Carolina

the lilies and sparrows originated from Ben Patat's acoustic writings while on and off of tour with the band Divide the Sea. The songs are our way of praising God for what he has done for us. He is worthy of all of our praise for the sole reason that He created us, not to mention that He sent His son to die for our sins so that we may be considered righteous through faith. ... more
